PROJECTS
Electrical Engineering & Consulting
- Energy Centre Upgrade and Co-generation System Amandla Engineering have implemented the first Hotel Co-Generation project in South Africa consisting of a gas plant with electrical and hot water outputs. This resulted in over a hundred thousand rand per month energy bill saving.
- Network Modernization UPS system rollout: Amandla Engineering was appointed by one of South Africa’s largest private hospital chains to design and implement a rollout strategy of UPS nationally.
- Energy Resilience and Backup Power Projects: Amandla Engineering was appointed by various clients to upgrade, design and install generator systems.
Renewable Energy & Efficiency
- Solar PV Rollout (3 MW): This turnkey project involved the implementation of solar PV plants in ten buildings nationally. Feasibility studies were conducted which comprised of technical assessments, economic and third party financing of turnkey PV installations. This project received board approval at EXCO level. The payback period for this project is approximately 5.3 years.
- 2nd Largest Carport Installation in Africa (2.2 MW): Amandla Engineering were appointed to perform technical advisory services on the second largest Photovoltaic carport in Africa, a 2.2MW ground mounted PV system that produces more than 3 million kWh per annum.
Building Services
- Energy Efficiency Rollout (11 million kWh saving per annum): This turnkey project involved the energy optimisation in fourteen buildings nationally. Feasibility studies were conducted which comprised of technical assessments, economic and demand assessments, financial modelling and technology specification activities which facilitated third part financing of a turnkey lighting and HVAC retrofit. The project received board approval at EXCO level. Amandla Engineering has completed various lighting and HVAC interventions to deliver significant energy bill reductions in excess of 11 million kWh per annum over the fourteen buildings. The payback period for this project is approximately 3.5 years.
- Hospital Building Services and Project Management (+100 hospitals): Amandla Engineering has been appointed by two of South Africa’s largest private hospital chains as a building services consultant on several ICU and building upgrades, Energy Efficiency projects, Renewable energy projects, Maintenance projects and futureproofing solutions.
- Building Upgrade (150 000 m2): Amandla Engineering are currently part of a professional team mandated to undertake a campus wide upgrade of premises owned by one of South Africa’s biggest financial institutions. The total gross lettable area of this site is 150 000m2, with an estimated project upgrade value of more than one billion rands.
- Distribution Board Compliance Upgrade: Amandla Engineering has been appointed by a client to upgrade nationally all distribution boards to comply to the latest standards.
- Earthing and Lightning Protection: Amandla Engineering has been appointed by a client, to provide and execute a turn-key solution, for design and installation of lightning Protection Systems on various sites nationally.
Transactional Advisory
- Transactional Advisory Services (152 MWp) Amandla Engineering was appointed as part of a consortium as the transaction advisor for the development of the funding and delivery mechanism for renewable energy interventions in Government Buildings. This involved the development of a solar PV rollout strategy for an asset portfolio consisting of 32 000 registered and unregistered land parcels and 108 000 improvements (buildings and structures) countrywide with an estimated replacement value of R 425 billion including land. Estimated installed capacity for phase 1 is 152MWp.
- Transactional Advisory Services (136 MWp) Amandla Engineering was appointed as part of a consortium as the transaction advisor for the development of a Bankable Feasibility Study for a 136MWp solar PV project in Rustenburg. The scope of work comprises of all Bankable Feasibility Study activities required before contracting. This includes the project concept, pre-feasibility studies, feasibility studies and detailed designs, contracting and funding preparation. The project value is estimate at R3 billion.
- Transactional Advisory Services – RMIPPPP RFP (1845 MWp) This project involved the technical input into drafting the RFP for the Risk Mitigation Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (RMIPPPP) for the Independent Power Producer Office (IPPO) on behalf of the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE). The scope of work comprised of reviewing the energy requirements of the national energy provider and utilising previous bid windows of IPP submissions as a reference to draw up a technology agnostic RFP which catered to providing immediate relief to the national grid.
- Transactional Advisory Services – RMIPPPP Evaluation (1845) This project comprised of evaluation bids received included renewable sources such as Wind and PV as well as fossil fuel thermal plants including gas and diesel with the addition of hybrid plants utilising large scale battery storage. Following submissions of the RFP, Bids were evaluated according to the criteria presented in the RFP and a BEC report composed which is submitted to DMRE. The total value of the preferred bidders amounted to R45 billion.
- Transactional Advisory Services – REIPPPP (5000MW) Amandla Engineering was appointed as lead technical advisor on Bid Window 5 (BW5) and Bid Window 6 (BW6) of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP). Following submissions of the RFP, Bids were evaluated according to the criteria presented in the RFP and a BEC report composed which is submitted to DMRE. Technologies employed in this bid window were Onshore Wind and Solar PV exclusively. The total value of the preferred bidders amounted to R50 billion.
